You install a PWA straight from the browser, no app store needed. When is that enough, and when do you really need a native iOS or Android app?
Short answer: A PWA (Progressive Web App) is a web application people install on their phone or computer straight from the browser, without an app store. For internal tools, CRMs, client portals and booking systems a PWA is usually enough, and far cheaper than separate iOS and Android apps. You only need a native app when you have to go deep into the phone's hardware, or when being found in the app store genuinely matters for your business.
01
What is a PWA?
A PWA is a website that behaves like an app. You open it in the browser, choose Add to Home Screen or Install, and from then on it sits as an icon on your phone or desktop. It opens full screen, can send push notifications and runs from one codebase on iPhone, Android and desktop.

03
When should you choose a PWA?
You are building an internal system or CRM for your team: calendar, customer management, quotes, daily reports.
You want customers to log in for appointments, documents or project status.
You want to ship changes quickly without waiting for app store review.
Your budget should go into functionality, not into building the same thing twice.
04
When is native the better choice?
The app needs to do a lot in the background, or make heavy use of Bluetooth, sensors or offline sync.
Being found in the app store is a key acquisition channel.
Your audience explicitly expects a real app and won't install anything from a browser.

In practice
Beauty Salon by Maxime's: the admin portal for the calendar, treatments and customers is a PWA. The salon keeps it as an app on a phone or tablet and can check who is coming in today between two treatments, without any app store.
An operations portal for an aviation company: staff install it from the browser on desktop or phone, with no separate iOS or Android app.
For these use cases a native app would have cost more without giving users anything extra in return.
Common questions.
Does a PWA work on iPhone?
Yes. On iOS you install a PWA from Safari with Add to Home Screen. Push notifications work on iPhone once the app is on the home screen.
Can a PWA become a native app later?
Yes. The logic and backend stay usable; a native app can later connect to the same API.
What does a PWA cost?
A custom system built as a PWA starts at €3,250 excluding VAT (Smart System) at Vorteca, plus Vorteca Core from €40 per month.
